Family Search is a free platform where you get information and upload your tree if you want. It is associated with the LDS Library and the Mormon church. They have lots of records. If you upload your tree, others can edit it, so I only use it as a source for free information and records.

GedMatch is great for DNA analysis. Upload your ancestry DNA raw DNA to Gedmatch. They have an ancient DNA list that shows you how much Neanderthal you may have and your connection to other human hominids. Gedmatch is free to use.

Find a Grave is a great free resource for finding your ancestors gravestones, as well as biographical information left by their descendants. Spouses, children and photos are also included sometimes.

Fold 3 is a Military database where you get more information about your ancestors involvement from any war. It is a paid site but they have extensive military records that can add to family tree information.

Newspapers is another great paid resource. You can find obituaries, marriage notices, interesting stories about your ancestors. Some of the papers go back to the 1700s.
